A series of temporary road closures will take place across Monmouthshire later this month as the county council prepares for essential water and poling works.

Three separate Traffic Regulation Orders have been issued, affecting routes in Penallt, Rockfield and The Hendre between Wednesday, September 23 and Friday, September 25.

The first closure is scheduled for Birches Road, Penallt, where Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water will carry out works over two days. The order comes into force on Thursday, September 24 2026 and is expected to remain in place until Friday, September 25 2026.

A stretch of the road approximately 360m from its junction with Glyn Road will be closed for around 465m. The council says reasonable access will be maintained for residents, and a signed diversion will operate via Glyn Road, Brook Road and Penygarn Road.

On Monday, September 28 2026, a second closure will affect the B4347 at Rockfield, where poling works are planned. The road will be shut between 8am and 5pm, covering a section roughly 0.80km from its junction with the B4233 for a distance of 0.85km.

Drivers will be diverted along the B4233, A40, A465, B4521 and back to the B4347. The council emphasised that access for fronting properties will be maintained wherever possible.

A further closure will take place earlier in the week on Wednesday, September 23 2026, when a short section of the B4233 at The Hendre will be shut for poling works between 8am and 5pm.

The affected stretch lies around 3.30km west of the junction with the B4347 and covers approximately 255m. A diversion will be in place using the B4233, B4347, B4521, A465 and A40.

All three notices have been issued under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which allows local authorities to close roads temporarily for works to be carried out safely.

Each order may remain in force for up to 18 months, although the council expects all works to be completed within the stated timeframes.

The council also reminded motorists that anyone who contravenes restrictions imposed under Section 14 may be committing an offence.
