Monmouthshire County Council has confirmed a series of temporary road closures across Penallt, Killgwrrwg, Usk and Caldicot, with multiple short‑term restrictions brought into force this month to allow essential works to be carried out safely.

All orders have been enacted under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Closures in Penallt

Three separate notices cover roads in and around Penallt, each linked to Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water works.

The first order, affecting Brook Road, will come into force on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. A stretch between Penygarn Road and Glyn Road will be closed, with traffic diverted via Penygarn Road, Pentwyn Lane and Glyn Road.

A second closure follows on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, covering C48.1 The Craig Road to Penallt. This order remains active until Wednesday, September 16, 2026, closing the section between Moorcroft Road and Pentwyn Lane. A diversion was set up using Moorcroft Road and Pentwyn Lane.

The third Penallt notice applies to Glyn Road, where works will take place on Thursday, September 10, 2026. The road will be shut between Brook Road and Pentwyn Lane, with drivers redirected along Pentwyn Lane, Penygarn Road and Brook Road.

All three closures maintained access for residents living along the affected routes.

Killgwrrwg closure for poling works

A further order comes into operation on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, affecting the R82 road from Gethley Road to Devauden Court in Killgwrrwg. The closure, in place between 8am and 5pm, covers a 0.8km stretch from its junction with the B4293. Poling works required the restriction, with a diversion running via the B4293, A466, B4235 and R82 Gaerllwyd Farm to Gethley Road.

Usk and Caldicot restrictions

In Usk, Rumble Street will be closed from Wednesday, September 9, 2026 until Friday, September 11, 2026, again for Welsh Water works. Around 80 metres of the road, located 0.6km from the A472 junction, will be shut. Traffic will be diverted via the A472 and Cefn Mawr Lane.

Meanwhile, in Caldicot, Sudbrook Road will be closed on Sunday, September 13, 2026, between 8am and 6pm. Approximately 300 metres of the road, starting 215 metres from Great Spring Road, will be affected. No formal diversion was provided, with access managed on site under short delays.
