A series of temporary road closures have been introduced across Monmouthshire this month, with multiple routes affected by utility and maintenance works carried out under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

All orders allow closures of up to eighteen months if required, though each scheme is expected to be completed within days.

The first closure took place on Barecroft Common, Magor, where poling works shut a 365‑metre stretch from its junction with the A4810 on Tuesday, September 8, operating between 8am and 5pm. A diversion was signed via the A4810, B4245 Newport Road and Redwick Road.

In Shirenewton, BT cabling works began on Thursday, September 10, running until Monday, September 14 between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

The scheme is split into two phases: closures on Ditch Hill Lane on Monday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 9, followed by a 405‑metre closure on R84 Mynyddbach to Old Monmouth Road on Thursday, September 10 and Monday, September 14. Diversions will be signed via the B4235 and surrounding rural routes.

In Usk, Maryport Street closed on Wednesday, September 2 for poling works between 8am and 5pm, with a short 15‑metre section affected near Bridge Street.

The one‑way system was temporarily suspended to allow resident access, supported by traffic management operatives.

Further works took place in Devauden, where Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water closed a 120‑metre section of R84 Ty Du Road to Nex Common between Wednesday, September 2 and Friday, September 4, with diversions via Glyn Farm Road and the B4293.

On Tuesday, September 8, a 300‑metre stretch of R102 Parc Road to Oak Ridge, Coed‑y‑Paen closed for poling works between 10am and 5pm, with a diversion through Parc Road, Cwrt Bleddyn and Woodside Trading Estate.

The same day, Undy Road, Carrow Hill also closed for poling works between 8am and 5pm, affecting 65 metres near Carrow Road. A lengthy diversion was signed via St Brides Road and the B4245.

Finally, Severn Trent Water will close part of 405034 The Moorwood in Lydbrook from 8am on Thursday, September 24 until 6pm on Friday, September 25, covering 155 metres between Moorwood Cottage and Morang. Emergency and pedestrian access will be maintained.

All closures will have signed alternative routes in place.
