Drivers across Monmouthshire are being urged to plan ahead this month as a widespread blitz of infrastructure improvements brings a wave of temporary road closures. The local authority has issued regulatory notices detailing a series of essential interventions, ranging from critical water main repairs to telecom cabling and urgent road resurfacing.

Among the most significant disruptions, will see highway crews moving in to tackle deteriorating road surfaces. In St Arvans, Devauden Road will be fully closed from its junction with the A466 for a major 0.95km stretch. The surface dressing works will take place between June 24 and June 29, operating daily from 08:00 to 18:00. Two signed diversion routes will guide motorists via the B4293 or Wyndcliff Road.

This follows a substantial resurfacing project on Manor Chase in Undy. The 195-metre stretch leading north from the B4245 to St Mellons Close was closed daily from June 11 to June 17, with local traffic successfully diverted via Rockfield Grove.

Water and telecommunications providers are also deploying teams across the county's network:

  • Welsh Water Projects: In Pwllmeyric, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water will close the C61.1 from Rhewl Farm to its junction with Runston Road. The closure runs from June 22 to June 24, with traffic diverted via Bayfield Road and Mounton Road. Meanwhile, on June 22, Kymin Road in The Kymin will close for a 75-metre section from 08:00 to 16:00. Because it is a no-through route, no signed diversion is possible, and residents should prepare for short delays. These follow a completed water project on Llanhennock Top Road earlier in the month.
  • BT and Cabling Works: On June 17, telecom engineers will close a 350-metre section of the C72.4 from Highmoor Hill Road in Caerwent between 09:30 and 15:30. Similarly, vital cabling works on Chapel Lane in Pwllmeyric were recently completed under a short daylight closure, where traffic operatives were stationed on-site to safely manage resident access.

Additionally, daylight poling works are impacting rural routes, including a completed single-day closure on Parc Road in Coed Y Paen, and an upcoming closure on St Brides Road in St Brides Netherwent on June 22.

The council notes that reasonable access will be maintained for all properties fronting the affected zones. However, commuters are strongly advised to check alternative routes before setting out.
