TRAFFIC lights could be permanently installed at a junction in Monmouth if signees of a popular petition have their way.
More than 80 people have signed a petition asking for Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) to consider the permanent installation of traffic lights at the junction on the B4293 between Monmouth and Mitchel Troy. The junction has been subject to some debate, with temporary traffic lights in place for 10 months due to roadwork delays.
Criticism was received about the delay to traffic, but some comments were received that a benefit of the temporary traffic lights was improved access and safety at the junction.
The petition has been signed by 82 people, while two signatories have suggested that a mini roundabout should be created.
If the work were to take place it is predicted to be at a cost of around £80,000, although a detailed survey would need to be compledted.
There is no accident history associated with traffic at the junction, it is acknowledged that the junction does require particular care by those travelling towards Monmouth from the Trellech direction.
Previous reports from MCC have found that it would be difficult to improve the junction without the acquisition of land and a major realignment of the B4293 to move the junction away from the Toll House and bend.
The petition will be received later today (28th September) at a meeting of Monmouthshire County Council’s Central Monmouth Area Committee.
