MEMBER of the Senedd for Sir Fynwy Torfaen, Peter Fox, has visited the Taylor Wimpey development at Edlogan Wharf in Cwmbran to hear first-hand about the challenges and opportunities facing the housebuilding sector in Wales.

During the visit, Peter met with representatives from the National House Building Council (NHBC) and Taylor Wimpey to discuss the delivery of new homes, planning and infrastructure issues, and the barriers the industry faces in meeting housing demand across Wales.

The Edlogan Wharf development, which began in 2016, is being delivered through a single planning application across multiple phases and is expected to provide around 1,200 homes. Peter was given an overview of the site’s progress and heard how building standards and specifications have evolved over the course of the development.

Discussions focused on concerns that additional regulations in Wales can increase development costs and create further challenges for housing delivery.

Representatives also highlighted the importance of better coordination between local authorities, utility providers and developers to help reduce delays and improve the efficiency of new housing projects.

Local MS for Sir Fynwy, Peter Fox, said: “It was valuable to visit the Edlogan Wharf development and speak directly with those responsible for delivering new homes in our communities.

“Wales faces significant housing challenges, and it is essential that we understand the practical barriers affecting the sector.

“While maintaining high standards for homeowners must remain a priority, we must also ensure that regulations, planning processes and infrastructure arrangements support the delivery of the homes people need.”

Luke Carter, Regional DIrector at NHBC, who joined Peter Fox MS on the visit said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Peter to Edlogan Wharf and discuss both the opportunities and challenges facing housebuilders across Wales.

“At NHBC, quality is at the heart of everything we do. For most people, buying a home is the biggest investment they will ever make, and they deserve to have confidence that it has been built to the highest standards.

“Getting it right first time is essential, not only for homeowners but also for the long-term success of the home building industry.

“As Wales looks to deliver more of the homes it needs, we must ensure that quality remains a priority. By working together with house builders, policymakers and the wider industry, we can help support the delivery of high-quality homes that people can trust.”
