SIR,

One cannot fail to notice the new pay and display system that has arrived in our car parks around Monmouth.

In the past, you could do the neighbourly thing of passing your ticket to someone to use your allotted time if you had not used it prior to leaving the car park.

The new system requires a vehicle registration number to be entered and printed on to the ticket.

This prevents you from being able to let someone else use the rest of the time on that ticket should you leave before the ticket expires.

Why does Monmouthshire County Council support the further deterioration of our community spirit?

Does the old system generate that much in lost income for the council that they have to find ways to penalise people who want to act in a friendly manner in a small town?

Its a great shame that our local council has chosen to act in this manner for the sake of a few extra thousand pounds of income per year, which will probably be wasted on expenditure elsewhere in any case.
