SIR,
My worst fears were realised on Tuesday when I visited an exhibition concerning parking in the Goldwire Lane area of Monmouth.
Basically the council is planning to stop parking in the area following complaints from Homeforge and Abbeyfield House and the local shop. In other words businesses who have car parks will be fine while people who live in the area will be left with nothing. When I pointed out to the council officers that I would have nowhere to park I was met with a shrug of the shoulders. Our local councillor Sue White has been noticeable by her absence but seems to be fully in support of the no parking scheme. In other words the needs of businesses are taking precedence over the people who live here. Parking is an issue in the area but the council solution appears to be to push cars into neighbouring streets. Will that mean even more double yellow lines in the near future?
Just whose interests is Sue White supposed to represent the local residents or a handful of people who don't want anyone parking in their street including their neighbours. I for one will not be letting this happen without a fuss and I will not be going away quietly.
Michael Ribbeck,
(Monmouth)
