NOW IS the time to reveal what Opening Doors is all about although almost everyone will have seen or heard something about it.
Yes it is a special week - it's been planned for a long time and it's hoped it will be a success. It's not all an Alleluia kind of Mission, nor a church recruitment drive: More a week of bringing the church to the people, revealing what it is all about. A week of experiences; a week of questions, asked and debated, perhaps even answered. A week when there will be something for everyone and the privilege of having Archbishop Rowan at most events.
There will be a quiz at the Green Dragon, an evening at the Rugby Clubwith tennis commentator Gerald Williams, a member of Christians in Sport, and at the same time upstairs a parallel event for young people. There's an Any Questions' session in the Library on the Wednesday evening, with the Archbishop and a well known panel.
At St Mary's Priory Church on the Tuesday there will be a vigil until midnight entitled Exploring Body and Spirit and at St Thomas's on the Thursday, a meditative evening with Liturgical Dance by the children.
Special services will be held at Both churches, led by the Archbishop, including a joint Mothering Sunday service on the 25th.
The Archbishop will also be visiting some of the schools.
There will be a caravan for information purposes, a bookstall at the market and a chance to chat. Something that could bring all sorts and kinds of folk together. Something that will be good for the town. It is an event organised by St Thomas, St Mary and the Buckholt churches. Look out for a programme - they are due to be distributed very soon and there will be plenty about. Try to come to some of the things on offer. We could be better for it - it's up to us to find out!
Opening Doors - Sunday March 18th to Sunday, March 25th.
