OLD Monmothians were commissioning as British Army officers during the latest Commissioning Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
This milestone highlights the strength of the School’s Combined Cadet Force and bespoke officer preparation programme held in high regard by military families.
Twelve of the current CCF cadets had the opportunity to visit RMAS to support the parade, volunteering as ushers and assisting throughout the day.
This opportunity gave the cadets first-hand insight into the pathway to becoming an Army officer and what it is like at the highest levels of training.
The visit was made particularly special by the commissioning of two Old Monmothians on the day: Finn Town, who commissioned into The Rifles, and Tom Morgan, who commissioned into The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Their achievements were amplified as four others Old Monmothians were also on parade and currently undergoing officer training at Sandhurst.
Having six OMs represented on the square is an exceptional accomplishment and a powerful demonstration of what staff describe as the Monmouth’s Dividend in action.
The cadets enjoyed a guided tour of the Academy and watched the parade alongside proud families who were able to speak directly with commissioned officers and Officer Cadets in training.
Haberdashers’ Monmouth school has one of the highest proportions of former pupils progressing through officer training. This was linked to the school’s bespoke officer training programme, which is designed to support pupils who are aspiring to gain a commission in the British Army.
The programme is led by Major Lawrence, a former British Army Infantry (Major, Royal Welsh) who brings his extensive operational and leadership experience to his role.
Major Lawrence is also the housemaster of Buchanan House who provide day-to-day pastoral care and mentorship.
The schools extended their good luck to Ben Smith, Charlotte Buchanan, Freddie Fraser and Harry Mair and Benjamin Lawrence who will commission later this year.
