A monthly award celebration at Gibraltar Nursing Home, based in Monmouthshire, saw Home Manager Verity surprised with a Star of the Month award, following the home achieving a ‘Good’ rating across all areas in its latest CIW inspection.

The surprise moment came after another team member, Chris who has worked at Gibraltar for over 17 years, had been recognised and presented with Star of the Month for March. Chris was put forward by the team and championed by Verity for her incredible dedication to life at Gibraltar and going above and beyond for family members (residents). As the presentation ended, the team revealed a second award, this time for Verity herself, with Chris in on the surprise and handing over the envelope!

The gesture was the team’s way of recognising Verity’s leadership and the part she plays in guiding the home. She was visibly touched by the moment and was presented with flowers and a certificate signed by the team.

That same sense of teamwork and day-to-day connection was reflected in the home’s recent CIW inspection, where Gibraltar Nursing Home was rated ‘Good’ across well-being, care and support, environment, and leadership and management.

Inspectors observed relaxed and natural interactions throughout the home, noting that relationships between team members and those living there were warm and respectful.

Comments gathered during the inspection reflected this, with one relative sharing, “All staff will go the extra mile to help,” and a family member added, “All the staff are helpful.”

Individuals living at Gibraltar Nursing Home were seen by inspectors making everyday choices about how they spend their time, from meals to activities, with opportunities to take part in meaningful moments that reflect personal interests. The report highlights a culture that supports people to live full and meaningful lives while feeling safe and understood.

Verity shared: “I am over the moon that the inspectors witnessed just how incredible the team are and the hard work and commitment they give to Gibraltar.”
