May I remind Mr Short (Beyond Brexit, Beacon letters 6th November) of the reason we have had nine years of austerity, the last Labour Government, by their own admission, bankrupted the country, leaving a note “there is no money left”. 

Now there is some money available Labour is very eager to spend it. Regarding Brexit, if the Remainers had accepted the democratic vote by the people of the country it may have made negotiating with Brussels a little easier.
