MADAM,
Soon we can expect bills to be dropping through our letter boxes for Council Tax.
I understand that the councillors for Monmouth unitary authority are meeting in February to decide what we have to pay.
In view of the large increases in Council Tax last year I cannot see any justification for them to make an increase in excess of 3% this year. Rumour has it that we can expect an increase of between 9% and 13%.
I urge the people of Monmouthshire to be vigilant when the bills arrive and if the increase is unacceptable then we should organise ourselves to raise the strongest possible protest.
It is also worthy noting that the Monmouthshire authority has 42 county councillors representing a population of only 80,000. Do we really need this many when one considers that all 42 have to be paid for by us.
