MONMOUTH Festival will be "glass free" from 2015.
From the launch of the festival on the weekend of Friday 25th July until its close on Saturday 1st August, the site will be designated a glass free zone. No form of glassware from bottles to drinking vessels will be allowed on site.
Mel Ralph, festival co-chairman for 2015 said: "In line with nationwide festival best practice and in keeping with our licence requirements we'll be glass free from this year.
"We hope everyone understands the reasons and works with us to maintain our aim to keep Monmouth glass free this summer.
"This change will help to provide a safe environment for all attendees, especially all our younger music lovers who come along to the many family friendly nights we have throughout the event."
The site for the festival will be in the same location as last year, on the council car park by Monnow Bridge, and organisers are looking forward to welcoming visitors to the glass free environment.
Cans and plastic bottles will still be welcome, but people at the festival will be encouraged to recycle using the facilities provided.
Monmouth Festival organisers will be working alongside neighbouring retailers to seek their support in ensuring that customers are aware that the festival will be glass free.
It is hoped that local businesses will co-operate as the festival endeavours to maintain the terms of its licence and keep the Monmouth Festival going as one of the longest running free festivals in Europe. Monmouth Music Festival is run as a not-for-profit concern and is one of Europe's longest running free festivals, now in its 33rd year.
