A VETERINARY surgery could be built opposite the new livestock market in Raglan. It has been proposed that the new-build surgery will be situated on land at High House Farm. If plans are successful, the surgery will treat primarily farm animals and would serve farms in the surrounding areas. The new surgery is proposed to have a maximum gross floor area of 224 square metres and will be single storey. Although the appearance of the property is unknown at this stage, it is anticipated the building will reflect the agricultural nature of its surroundings. The surgery's proposed location will be situated a distance away from the Grade II listed farmhouse currently on site. Llanarth Community Council recommended the proposal for refusal for several reasons. The council said the application would prejudice the Rights of Way, the application is not within an industrial area and the application would prejudice the long term viability of the farming unit. According to MCC's Development Plans department the proposed location opposite the new livestock market would be beneficial in terms of animal welfare. A decision on whether or not to approve the outline planning permission proposal was made as the Beacon went to press.
