AN opening ceremony to welcome new playground equipment to The Glade took place last Tuesday (16th June).

The previous equipment had come to the end of its natural life but was well used by the village children who made good use of it over many years.

Natural Resources Wales replaced the equipment provided by its predecessor Forestry Commission Wales.

Marilyn Dunkelman, chair of the Narth Village Hall committee, said: "As Chair of the Narth Village Hall committee and on behalf of the whole village, I wanted to say a huge thank you to Natural Resources Wales for their remarkable generosity in providing the amazing new playground equipment in The Glade, and for agreeing to maintain it for five years.

"Being allowed use of The Glade for village activities such as the fete has greatly enhanced the life of our community over the years, and I know that village children will enjoy their new playground equipment for many years to come.

"I'd also like to personally thank Ranger Emma Felkin from Natural Resources Wales and Councillor Debby Blakebrough for giving up their valuable time to formally declare the playground open."

Councillor Debby Blakebrough said: "Sadly it is a well known fact that in times of funding cuts rural communities tend to loose their services before urban areas. Over the past few years we have witnessed a significant loss of amenities. As a County Councillor for a rural community this generous gift from Natural Resources Wales represents an oasis in times of financial drought. A perfect example of how working together can make a difference. Their support has not simply provided play equipment for our children but has enhanced this emerald glade creating a magical place of play, wonder and adventure for the whole community."
