A GROUP campaigning against an online drinking game has raised £1,700 for charity.
Staff and regulars at the Riverside Hotel, Monmouth rallied together to raise awareness of the dangers of 'neknominate' - an online drinking craze where participants are encouraged to down a pint of alcohol and nominate friends to do the same.
Some deaths have been attributed to the internet craze.
Earlier last month the group hosted a karaoke event at the Riverside called 'Don't Neck and Nominate, and make a difference.'
Organisers Chris Powles and Serry King encouraged the public to donate what they would have spent on money for neknominations to the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.
One of the organisers of the event, Chris Powles, said: "We've had a brilliant response from local businesses, and a great response on social media with young people commenting about neknominations.
"I believe our campaign has made a difference, we haven't seen it as much on social media recently.
"I'd like to thank the community and Serry because, alongside me, she's the one who's helped out the most and her involvement has been priceless."
The group annually hosts fundraising events for Cancer Research and the British Heart Foundation in memory of Matt
Lammas who died of cardiomyopathy.
