AFTER TWO ENCOUNTERS in the League, Monmouth Youth faced Talywain last Saturday for the third time this season, on the occasion of the quarter final of the Gwent Plate competition.
Thankfully, the rain stayed away, but a muddy pitch made for a game plan of basic rugby, and a need for a committed attitude from the players in order to win.
There were a number of changes in the team, under captain Aaron Price, but the pre-match atmosphere was good.
There was a lot of whistle from the referee in the opening 20 minutes, with a lot of lost ball due to the muddy conditions. The scrums were keenly contested, with Monmouth front row Tom Green, Matt Price and Dean Bartlett giving everything and coming out on top.
