PRIOR to Sunday's match Monmouth Under 15s have played 11 games, winning 10, with their only defeat at the hands of Old Penarthians (Cardiff Blues and Blacks) who are possibly the best Under 15 team in Wales.
On Sunday they hosted Lydney and made it 11 wins out of 12 when they won by 69 pts to nil to take the points' tally to 454 for, with 63 against.
The numerous spectators were entertained by some scintillating play as the forwards, who dominated from the start of the game, and the backs combined to keep the ball alive, guaranteeing second and third phase ball from which they took advantage.
This enabled John Evans, playing at number eight, to score five tries in the first half, with Kristian Williams scoring two with powerful runs down the left wing after good play from the backs. Greg Wilding converted six of these tries. Throughout the whole of the half, Lydney put up stiff resistance and to their credit refused to give up, countering on numerous occasions to test Monmouth's defence.
At half-time there were numerous team changes to ensure that all 22 members of the squad took part in the match. A further four tries followed in the second half, with Aled Elgabar, Mike Willis, Mat Burns scoring and James Hughes combining with Tom Weymouth to run the ball the length of the pitch from deep in Monmouth's half before Hughes scored.
Josh Evans took over the kicking duties as he was switched to outside centre and in three attempts, scored once, hitting the post on two occasions from long distance.
This was another first class squad performance with all players giving 100 per cent. Next week's game is against Abercynon away, kick-off 11am.
