MONMOUTH’S Monstock is returning this November after a summer event filled the town with talented musicians and a lively atmosphere.
Monstock was held in July this year showcasing the positive impact of the town and raising almost £1,000 for local charities.
The event in the summer was held on Saturday July 25, with bands performing at different venues all within walking distance.
Another Monstock event will be held at the Savoy on Friday November 6 in aid of the theatre. All ticket prices on the day will support this charity, helping contribute towards a well-appreciated business in the town.
Last year the festival raised almost £3,000 for the Savoy but the team are determined to raise even more at this event to support a widely appreciated theatre in the area.
Why is the Savoy the chosen charity?
Monstock selected the Savoy Theatre in Monmouth as its main beneficiary to help raise vital funds for the historic venue’s upkeep and operation. The Savoy is one of the most historic buildings in the town and holds a strong reputation in the area.
The Savoy stands as the oldest working theatre site in Wales used by a lot of Monmouth residents and people from the surrounding areas from events such as comedy night, live shows, pantomimes and cinema screenings.
As the nights draw in and days get cooler, the festival will bring together people for an exciting array of music from three bands taking to the stage for an event to remember.
The bands playing are Celtic Collectors, Crossroads Jam and u3. All featuring members of Monmouth u3a. The event in the summer was a huge success drawing in lots of people across the town for a full itinerary of entertainment. Not only did the event in the summer provide an opportunity for people to come together but it also supported local businesses as gigs were performed at pubs including: The Robin Hood, The Punch House, Bar 125 and Estero Lounge all of whom are widely recognised in Monmouth.
Organiser of Monstock, Averil Macdonald said: “After the great success in the summer it’s wonderful to be able to bring Monstock to the lovely Savoy Theatre. A fantastic night out promised for all.”
Tony Forster, leading the Celtic Collectors said: “The Celtic Collectors are departing from their traditional Celtic roots by embracing Monstock at the Savoy ‘full on’ with a Woodstock inspired song list. Come ready to sing along dressed in your best ‘hippy’ gear and once again join the flower-power generation so full of hope and optimism for a better world!”
AI Vaughan who plays in all three bands said: “It was great to see so many people out and about in Monmouth enjoying the music and contributing to local charities. Let’s see if we can improve on the £3,000 we raised last year for the Savoy.”
