Monmouth Haberdashers Monmouth School celebrated their first official joint Alumni Day, bringing together former pupils of Monmouth School, Monmouth School for boys, HMSG and Monmouth School for girls.
This celebration reflects a broader evolution at the heart of our community: Haberdashers’ Monmouth School which has become fully co-educational.
The day began with a moving Chapel Service for Old Monmothians, held in the familiar setting of the school chapel.
The service was led by Chaplain, Revd Dr Alicia Timmis, with readings by Steven Raikes, President of the Old Monmothian Club and Mr Simon Dorman, executive head.
Mrs Rachel Rees Head of Senior School gave a presentation on the current and future direction of the school.
The two groups came together in the Blake Theatre foyer which symbolised the new unity of the alumni community, speeches commenced along with the introduction of the new executive committee.
Tanya Prosser said: “Well, here we are together at last.”
Steven Raikes spoke on the honour of serving the legacy of those before him and the exciting opportunities which lie ahead for the joint alumni.
The establishment of this joint alumni association is a natural and timely step as the school embraces its co-educational future.
After the speeches, there was a chance to get to know co-presidents and reconnect with old friends.
In a symbolic gesture of unity, the joint alumni presented two commemorative benches, one placed at the prep school and the other at the Senior School.
Highlights of the day included: lunch served in their new William Jones campus dining room; alumni were invited on a tour of the school led by current sixth form pupils.
The Alumni day celebration shared heritage, a vision for the future and a testament to enduring spirit of the Haberdashers Monmouth school community.
