Sunday July 20th. A choice of 2 walks. On the first and third Sundays of the month our aim is to offer an easier social walk for older members who now prefer a less demanding walk, taken at a leisurely pace. This Sunday the short walk planed is 4 miles, a flat walk around Monmouth past the historic Monnow Bridge, meadows along the River Wye and back across Chippenham and Vauxhall Fields.
The longer walk will be 7.5 miles, a delightful woodland walk on good paths throughout. We follow a level path to Milkwall before passing through the remains of iron and steel works. Through woods, bypassing a quarry to reach Mary Rose Young Pottery for our coffee break. Good tracks take us to the charming village of Drybrook for our lunch stop. Further tracks lead up to Ellwood then through the Dark Hill inclosure. to pick up the return path to the walk start.
New members are always welcome to join Monmouth Rambling and Hillwalking Club. There is a small annual membership subscription. A reminder that walkers are responsible for their own safety and take part in walks at their own risk. Suitable footwear and clothing are essential. Please bring a drink and packed lunch. For members safety and enjoyment on walks, the club has a set of coronavirus notes that are available on request.
