After overcoming Cross Keys this year in the Gwent Schools Cup Semi Final, Monmouth Comprehensive School came up against a difficult St Albans outfit in the Final. Monmouth were aiming for their third final victory in seven years. The game set off at a frantic pace with both sides showing good defensive and attacking displays. However, it was Monmouth who made the early breakthrough in the tenth minute with a precise through ball by Daniel Knight that split the St Albans back three and Sam McCoy was on hand to finish with a deadly left foot strike that found the top corner. Great defensive displays by Lee Holder, Rhodri Lewis and Charlie Ashworth kept Monmouth on top of the game and frustrated the opposition. In the 85th minute the St Albans striker was clean through on goal only for his shot to be blocked in a last ditch attempt by Mike Cleaves. Tireless running by Elliott Ford, Will Barton and Nico Constanti helped Monmouth by keeping the ball in the oppositions half. A relieved Monmouth outfit were elated to hear the final whistle because they knew that they had been in a hard fought battle and deserved to win the game.
