MONMOUTH residents are being reminded that a Met Office red weather warning remains in place over the next few days.

The red weather warning has been issued from 9am on Wednesday until 9pm on Thursday.

The heatwave is expected to impact a large part of England and Wales this week, over the two/ three-day period where maximum temperatures could reach 37 Celsius or in some places reaching 38 to 40 Celsius.

Due to high humidity the heat can feel more powerful and discomforting resulting in significant disruption to daily life and the public are urged to make every effort to make precautions and adapt their daily routines to cope with extreme levels of heat like this.

Residents should ensure to drink plenty of fluids, keep out of the sun and avoid any exercise between 11am until 3pm and when the sun is at its strongest to close curtains.

If you're going out:

  • Take water
  • Stay in the shade

If you know anyone vulnerable or those living with underlying health conditions, ensure to check in on them to make sure they are safe.
