A Monmouth man has been nominated for the Volunteer of the Year award at a Keep Wales Tidy award ceremony.

Dave Wigmore from Redbrook will be travelling to Llandudno Thursday (October 2) to the lunchtime ceremony which will announce the winners from the eight categories that celebrate the individuals and groups that help keep Wales free of litter.

The Tidy Wales Awards have given Keep Wales Tidy the opportunity to shine a light on unsung environmental heroes across the country since 1990.

Nominated for the award by Angela Hoyle, Dave will be travelling courtesy of Monmouth Town Council who is paying for his train to the venue, and Anthea Dewhurst will be accompanying him.

Dave told the Beacon that he usually takes his dog Brock along with him on litterpicks, “he is good at sniffing out litter in places I cannnot see.”

Wales is second in Europe in the recycling rates and it is thanks to Dave that discarded rubbish is picked up and properly recycled.

The only other county nomination in the eight categories went to Keep Abergavenny Tidy in the Cleaner Communities Award section.
