MONMOUTH and District Food Bank is calling on the local community to help ensure no one has to face hunger alone this autumn.

Regular weekly food and essentials donations continue to decline and has been down by 40 per cent since 2020 whilst the food bank has seen an 11 per cent increase in demand this summer.

The combination of rising need and falling donations is putting increasing pressure on food stocks ahead of what is traditionally one of the busiest times of year.

The food bank has invested in two railing banners to remind the community how much we need their support.

“No one ever thinks they’ll need the food bank until they do,” says Food Bank manager, Martin Howlett.

“Every tin, packet and carton donated can make a real difference to someone facing difficult circumstances. We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity our community has always shown, and we’re asking people to help us keep our shelves stocked for the months ahead.”

The food bank is particularly encouraging donations of everyday essentials, including:

  • UHT milk
  • Long life fruit juice
  • Jam and marmalade
  • Tinned meat
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Tinned fruit
  • Tinned rice pudding and custard
  • Rice
  • Tea and Coffee
  • Biscuits
  • Toiletries
