Many locals in the community came together to commemorate VE day 80th anniversary, to remember our fallen soldiers and to mark the end of the Second World War.

Eirwyn Smith hosted a VE day commemoration for some neighbours in Monmouth, they enjoyed a selection of food which was displayed on a union jack table cover.

The residents enjoyed, music, cake and refreshments and many of the decorations were made from scratch which Eirwyn Smith made.

Wenllian Hacket Pain also known as ‘Wenks’ attended the event and also celebrated their 102 birthday.

The day commenced with the quarter peal bell ringing at St Mary’s Church enlightening the community with the sound of music.

The day was brought to a close with Haberdashers Monmouth prep school lit up red, white and blue, with the harmony of Monmouth male voice choir, councillors and the public who sang “I vow to thee my country”.
