Nine Monmouth community organisations have all received a big boost thanks to the generous support of local people and the tireless efforts of Rotary Monmouth, who are now themselves in need of a few more helping hands.

They all received grants totalling £5,700 at a showcase celebratory evening attended by recipients, Rotarians and guests at the Monmouth St Mary’s Priory Hall on Friday 20th June.

After a welcome by Rotary Monmouth President David Forbes, member Kevin Graham described his recent trip to the Ukraine to deliver humanitarian aid to that country with Will Jackson of the Rotary Club of Hereford City. This was one of many aid deliveries that have been coordinated by Rotarians around the world. The grant recipients were then each invited to give a short presentation on how their grants would assist in their ongoing endeavours.

First to come forward was the Mayhem Theatre Group followed by Monmouth Food Bank, Wyesham Scouts, Monmouth Community School Bar Mock Trial and Silent Disco, the Two Rivers Meadow Project, The Chippenham Park Run, Friends of the River Wye and The Monmouth Community Fridge.

Commenting on the event, Club President David Forbes said it had been an undoubted success and highlighted the great community spirit to be found in Monmouth and all the hard work and tireless efforts contributed by the town’s small and dedicated band of Rotarians now very much in need of some more helping hands.

It was indeed an achievement that with the ongoing support of the community Rotary Monmouth had raised around £150,000 for worthy local, national and international causes over the past three years.

Rotary are a group of volunteers who raise money for good causes.
