SIR,

I live on Salisbury Plain and visit Monmouth once a month, always parking in the car park opposite Monmouth School.

I was amazed to find the other day that I had to input my car registration at the meter before I could pay and park.

In my opinion the reason is pretty obvious – it is so that one cannot pass on a ticket to another person when there is time still left; in effect receiving payment twice for the same space.

How mean-spirited and greedy this is. My Welsh ancestors would be as horrified as I am at such an attitude.
