THE Risca Male Choir is performing at St Mary's Church, Monmouth, at 7.30 pm on Saturday in aid of the Mayor's Charities.
Mayor of Monmouth Cllr Richard Bond is a member of the Choir, which was founded in 1970.
It has an enviable reputation and has won a number of competitions, performing a wide variety of music including traditional material, operatic and musical theatre items as well as original compositions from the world of classical music.
The Choir is also famous for its unique theme concerts, one of which was turned into a feature length television programme. Other television appearances have included The Magic of the Musicals which featured Bryn Terfel, Peter Karrie and Catherine Zeta-Jones and an appearance on the National Lottery's first birthday broadcast.
Last year was a special celebratory year with the Annual Celebrity concert featuring bass-baritone Willard White.
The Choir's accompanist is Julie Bevan and Musical Director is Martin Hodson MBE, who has been a freelance musician since 1997 when he retired from full time work in education. Since 1981 he had been Director of Music and Head of Performing Arts at the Crosskeys Campus of Gwent Tertiary College.
