Two Monmouth residents will be running the London Marathon this April, but instead of relying on cheering crowds to drive them on, they will have another motivation.

Kristian Williams and Emma King are running the marathon on Sunday 25th April in memory of their friend Jamie Gunn, who was killed in Afghanistan last year, and to raise funds for ABF The Soldiers' Charity.

The Soldiers' Charity helps soldiers and their dependants while they are in the Army and after they have left. They also help families coping with tragic loss, homelessness or retraining a disabled soldier for a new career.

For 24-year-old Kristian, this will not just be a one-off challenge, but the final hurdle in a challenge he set himself when Jamie was killed in Afghanistan last February.

"Jamie and I were going to undertake the Kymin Dash to see which one of us was fitter," said Kristian, who himself served four years in the Royal Logistics Corps.
