Mitchel Troy County Councillor Geoff Burrows fancied a change of scenery. After completing several London Marathon runs for charity, and a fun run in Sydney over recent years, the opportunity to run a marathon in the Arctic Circle, Tromso in Norway, was accepted with relish. "Having only ever trained or run in the morning, the thought of running through the night was a daunting one, but when I arrived and started to experience 24 hour daylight, which is normal for this time of year, it wasn't a problem at all. The only thing I found strange was the sun shining from the North about one o'clock in the morning!" Geoff was very keen to experience Tromso from a local perspective, and was invited to stay at the home of the Deputy Mayor of Tromso. "A week before setting off for Norway I checked the organisers website and got a surprise; having been used to the anonymity that 30,000 people at the London Marathon provides, I found out that the Tromso Marathon was for just 380 runners. "My new strategy immediately became 'don't come last!' In fact, Geoff turned out his best performance yet, setting a new personal best, taking 10 minutes off his last attempt with a 4 hours 40 minutes. He came 275th
