VOLUNTEERS have rallied together to open a temporary shop for villagers while the Co-operative is being refurbished.
The work on the Co-operative meant that villagers would have been without a village shop for approximately four weeks leading to concern among residents about their elderly neighbours who can't get to other shops easily.
The temporary shop has been set up in the Magor Angling shop in Magor Square, stocking basics such as tinned goods, newspapers, toiletries and more, all given to the store at cost.
Volunteers from Building Bridges are in charge of running the shop. Project worker Fred Weston said the pop-up shop was also a perfect chance to provide volunteering opportunities for people with disabilities.
He said: "It has been amazing to see so many young people get involved.
"Magor is such a tight-knit community and it's been a pleasure getting to know residents in the process of delivering this service."
The Co-operative is being refurbished to replace the Budgens store in Magor. Michelle Gillette, manager of Budgens, said: "For the people who can't get on buses they really rely on their community shop. We couldn't just leave them."
