Sir,
In response to Nicholas Frost's letter last week regarding the blocking of the gateway into the field on the left as you come over the Inglis Bridge, there is a notice just inside the gate stating that there is no public footpath through this land. And yes, we have all enjoyed walking our dogs along here for years.
However, the field and riverside are accessible from the town end and this afternoon we walked along the river as far as the old brick pavilion. The litter here was unbelievable.
In five minutes we filled four carrier bags, which were also left there, with bottles, cans, polystyrene food trays and other plastic wrappers. Smashed glass is everywhere.
I would suggest to the landowner that he closes the access to the field completely and prosecutes anyone he sees in there.
