SIR,

I have been fascinated by recent developments on the Link Road.

It started with the appearance of a large number of expensive limestone blocks, followed by an even more expensive steel palisade fence and, more recently, a post and rail fence.

Were we getting a nuclear bunker I wondered? Or maybe a top secret research establishment?

Apparently not.

It seems that the Council have spent an inordinate amount of public money in order to prevent one man from doing a "Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall" and involving the local community in growing their own vegetables on a piece of spare land.

Can this be true? If it is, then is there a hint of personal vendetta?

Perhaps one of our local councillors will let us know how much is being spent, for what reason and upon who's authority?
