Leisure Leagues have been overwhelmed with aspiring female football players wanting to join their leagues, and as the market leader in five and six-a-side football, are encouraging female players to get involved and take part in the Monmouth league.

After a steady increase of women taking part in the existing mixed competitions, the organisation has also begun launching a number of all-female leagues.

New Business Manager Gemma Perry said; "We have always had many inquiries from female teams wanting to play in the leagues, which they are more than welcome to do so, but often they are put off by the ratio of men taking part".

"More and more female and mixed teams are signing up to leagues across the country, and with Leisure Leagues being Europe's largest providers of five and six-a-side football, it goes to show that 2009 really is the time to get involved with the league" she added.

The league takes place at Monmouth Leisure Centre on Monday evenings, and all of the equipment is provided for teams, with male, female, and mixed sides welcome to take part.

"We hope that in the near future we will be able to launch an all-female league in the area to really increase the popularity of the women's game. We have already begun setting up these leagues across the country, and hopefully with sufficient interest in Monmouth we can even add extra divisions", Gemma explained.

Matches are played at the same time every week. For more information call 0845 230 2340, or teams can register online at the above address.
