ST JOHN Street is to be closed for five weeks while builders renovate a property.

The street is the main route into Monnow Street from the Glendower area of the town and the dual carriageway, and despite signs on Wyebridge Street warning of the closure, traffic is still having to turn at the junction of Agincourt Street and go back the way it came. There is no ‘reminder’ sign at the entrance to Glendower Street Car Park.

The reason for the closure is the ‘Suit U’ building is having its external walls resurfaced and the scaffolding is protruding out into St John Street, making it impossible for wider vehicles to manoeuvre past.

To add to the traffic chaos, St Mary’s Street is also closed from Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th October so the only access to town for Wyesham traffic and vehicles coming off the A40, is through St James’ Square.
