SIR,

I too was horrified to see the "edifice" which has appeared in Dixton Close, and equally aghast to note the enormous space which has been carved out to accommodate another property in the close.

If, as Sandra Harvey said in her letter to the Beacon, the planning application for the Dixton Close house was turned down by Monmouth Town Council – and rightly so – on what grounds did Monmouthshire County Council overturn the decision?

When so much fuss is often made about putting in an extra window or building a garage, how did the council allow this house to be built?

It towers over the surrounding properties, obscuring their views and in no way blends with the houses around it.

I wonder if the planning committee really looked at and understood the plans and came out to view the site.

Incidentally, I believe there are further planning applications for houses to be built in gardens in Dixton Close.

Perhaps the council needs to take a closer look at these to determine, amongst other things, whether there really is enough space for a second property to be built and also, how this will affect the privacy of current residents.
