SIR,
Is nothing sacred? How can anyone justify theft from a church?
Some may say 'Why was the church open anyway?'
We try to keep the church open as often as possible and the many entries in our visitors book are a test to how much this is appreciated.
A church is the house of God; all are invited and like any house you do not expect your visitors to steal.
Over the last few years St Peter's Church, Dixton, has suffered a series of thefts. During the period May 2008 to October 2009, lead was taken from the roof three times.
Now on the weekend of 18th and 19th June, an enormous brass candle chandelier c1750 and brass vases from the altar were stolen.
We will continue to welcome visitors to the church, and perhaps our chandelier and brass vases will reappear.
