Volunteers decided to collect magazines and then resell them, for a donation. Customers were asked to help by bringing their old magazines into the market for this purpose. The response was tremendous.
“We were inundated”, said market trader Caroline Hicks, “we have been given so many, covering so many subject areas that we didn’t even know were being published”.
£260 has been raised so far and was handed to Jackie Vick who coordinates the local Parkinson’s Monmouth group at Monmouth’s market.
The Parkinson’s group in Monmouth offers information, friendship and support to local people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers. They meet at Bridges Community Centre at Drybrook Park on every third Wednesday of the month from 2pm to 4pm.
Monmouth market traders intend to continue raising money for the group next spring as they still have plenty of magazines left to sell.
If anyone has any old magazines to donate please take them to the market on Blestium Street every Friday and Saturday and give them to Caroline on the market gallery stall.
