SIR,

I am sure I am not the only one to notice how increasingly gridlocked Monouth is becoming during the rush hour and at weekends.

I hardly think the solution to this is to build 400 more houses in the locality. Perhaps someone could coax our councillors out of their ivory towers to point this out?

We also read in the national press this week about councillors in England hiring themselves out to property developers in the hope of taking advantage of new more relaxed planning laws which are coming into effect soon.

Now I am not accusing councillors in Monmouth of such antics, but observing the slavish manner in which they are pushing the LDP through, one is tempted to jump to conclusions.

Can any councillor in Monmouth please write to the Beacon and set out how traffic in Monmouth town will be alleviated by the construction of a new housing estate?

I look forward to reading it, although I suspect they haven't a cogent answer.
