MONMOUTH Cricket Club's teenage all-rounder Tej Saran has been picked for the Worcestershire County League's Under-19 representative squad.

Saran has been named in the squad for matches against the under-19 teams from the Warwickshire County League and the Staffordshire County League.

The Worcestershire County League are hoping to organise a match against another representative side for which Saran will be aiming to gain selection.

The former Monmouth Comprehensive School pupil is hoping to be picked for the league's opening representative match at Halesowen Cricket Club on August 6.

Saran said: "I am available for the matches which are taking place on August 6, 13 and 20. I am now hoping to be picked for the team because it will be a great experience."

Monmouth Cricket Club's chairman Pat Baker paid tribute to the continued progress made by Saran, who is also a talented squash player.

"Tej has been maturing nicely as a cricketer and has opened the bowling for our first team in Division 2 this season. He has made important contributions with both bat and ball for our second team for a number of seasons."

Baker added: "We are proud that Tej has been named in the squad and we hope that he will now become Monmouth's first player to gain representative honours with the Worcestershire County League."
