History was made last week as Wyesham Wanderers secured their future home on the Monmouth Show ground in Redbrook Road.

Pitch installation and changing facilities were finally completed as Wanderers now look forward to their first home match of the season in a couple of weeks.

With planning permission for another two pitches already granted, the future for Wyesham Wanderers looks bright.

Wyesham Manager Dave Cox was alongside club chairman Dave Townsend and secretary Dan Brine to receive the keys to the show ground from Show committee secretary Kay Spencer and director Brian Spencer.

Kay Spencer commented "The Monmouthshire Show is delighted to be working in partnership with the Wyesham Wanderers Football Club.

"Planning permission has been granted by Monmouthshire County Council for up to three football pitches on the Showground at Wyesham and the Show committee has agreed to allow the Wanderers free use of these pitches, in the first instance for their senior team but also in the future for a junior team.

"The partnership allows for the use of these pitches in exchange for help from the club in the setting up and dismantling of the Show and in stewarding on Show day.

"A partnership which it is hoped will continue for many years to come" Show Director Brian Spencer said "By coming to this agreement with the Wyesham Wanderers it has cemented our neighbourhood relations and we hope that the Wyesham community will become more involved with the Show and the Showground as a result of this partnership".

Wyesham Wanderers would like to thank everybody who helped with the work and all that donated either time or funding, Valley Construction, Rage Motors, Eagle Plant, The Cabin Centre and Robert Price. John Morgan from St James community hall and the Mayhill Hotel. Wellingtons Garden Services, who will be maintaining the pitch free of charge, Councillor Liz Hackett Pain and the Monmouth Show Committee. The club would also like to thank Alan Cox, who has personally overseen the entire project.

Wyesham Manger Dave Cox added, "This is a great day for the club, we would have struggled to keep the team going this year if we hadn't found a home pitch for the season.

"This is another example of how well the local community works together, people have been incredibly generous with donations and help. Having this pitch has enabled us to start up a junior team this year and with the help of Youth coach Jason Davies people of all ages can enjoy the sport."

County Councillor Liz Hackett Pain commented, "Wyesham Wanderers represent all the aspects of good community work. They have worked extremely hard to make a great success of this project. I fully support their future plans and wish them well in this season's games."
