The last few days of summer, Gibraltar Nursing Home threw a joint surprise birthday party for two of their residents, fondly referred to as family members, who were both celebrating their 91st birthday on the same day.

Garlands of colourful flowers adorned the hallways and framed the faces of those who had come together to celebrate the occasion (above). There were many photo opportunities to be had with Hawaiian props, sunglasses and drinks. The highlight of the day was the afternoon tea where everyone had cake and fizz and could spend time together making meaningful connections.

Tina Lucas, the House Leader at Gibraltar who organised the party commented “I wanted us to have a fun afternoon, we all put our sunglasses on as if we were at the beach! Our summer has been miserable so I thought we would bring the summer into Gibraltar!”

Gibraltar Nursing Home’s approach to life recognises the values, beliefs and identity of each person. Each person that may need support is unique and by understanding one’s life history, one’s journey in life, by striving to be a true continuation of home, the team at Gibraltar Nursing Home create a place where everyone feels safe and never alone.
