REDBROOK Village Hall launched its newly refurbished kitchen with a Burns Night Supper on Saturday 24th January.
Celebrating the life and works of the Scottish poet 'Robbie' Burns with a traditional Scottish meal, including haggis accompanied by a dram of whisky, the evening saw more than 100 people gather in the hall with readings from the poet's works.
Singing and country dancing also took place and everyone had an enjoyable time.
The bi-annual event is always popular and was a sell out again this year. It was, however, the first time that the newly refurbished kitchen at the hall was put to use since installation of an industrial style kitchen was completed earlier in the week.
Over the past four months Redbrook Village Hall has been professionally re-wired and redecorated and the programme of current works has now been largely completed with the installation of a stainless steel kitchen. Volunteer head chef on the big night, Mary Allen said: "What an improvement. It has made cooking on a large scale a whole lot easier and there is room to fit everything in now."
"There are still a number of small items to complete on the current refurbishment programme," said chair of trustees, Bob Jones.
"But we are now ready to go into service as a fully functioning kitchen for any community activity in the foreseeable future.
"It has been a major effort by a wonderful team of people and I must thank all who have worked so hard to bring this major project to fruition, both on the committee and those who are friends of the Village Hall here at Redbrook.
"It is amazing how many people have volunteered to help, with work parties and fund raising activities along the way, and in particular, getting ready for the big night. Well done and a huge thank you to all."
All proceeds raised on the night will go towards the costs of improving the hall. For more information on hiring the venue, visit www.
