The ENGLISH department at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School hosted their ‘Summer Evening of Literature and Music’, held in the Hitchcock Pavilion.
The event brought together students, staff and families for a joyful celebration of creativity and performance.
Dylan from year 13 fuelled the evening with passion, encouragement and light-hearted humour. His enthusiasm set the tone for a night which highlighted the talent and passion of the students.
Monmouth Students’ love for literature was highlighted by the array of pieces which were performed.
The music ranged from classics like Shakespeare’s Richard III, read by Sammy, year 12 to Priestly’s An inspector Calls, read by Flora, Liz and Clara, Year 10.
The original pieces were performed, including Martha’s Olympiad- winning, Blodeuwedd: A Metamorphosis of Betrayal and A Hunger for What I Cannot Have, written by Emily, Year 12.
One of the fan favourites was Chocolate Cake, read by Alex Burnett and Matthew Bone, Year 7 who entertained the audience with his comical rendition.
Dylan closed the evening with a reading of his own poem, encouraging Enviromental awareness and hedgehog conservation.
The evening featured a range of musical and dance performances.
Issy, who is in year 11 sang Journey to the Past from Anastasia, highlighting her passion for musical theatre.
Sam who is in year 12 also wrote an original song writing both the music and the lyrics showcasing his creativity and Reuben who is in year 12, opened act two showcasing his skill on guitar.
Dance was another skill which was highlighted in the performance, Maddie who is in year seven performed ballet to Waltz of the Flowers.
Poppy and Belle who are in Year eight performed a synchronised duet, reflecting their dedication and creativity.
The evening was ended with the English department thanking four members of the team: Mrs Peace, Mrs Livingston, Mrs Arrand and Mr Picken who are moving on after years of their dedicated service at Haberdashers Monmouth School.
