MATHERN men's choir is appealing for a new choirmaster to join its ranks.

The choir was formed about ten years ago, progressing from a few keen singers practising in the home of one of the group to a thirty-strong choir.

This transformation has been made by the hard work and leadership of Wynford Davies, former landlord of the Miller's Arms, and ex member of the Severn Tunnel Brass Band.

The choir, which now practices in Mathern Village Hall at 8pm each Monday, has become a popular choice for singing at local weddings, funerals and village events.

There is a great fellowship among the choir members, who come from all walks of life. Many social events and outings are enjoyed, and there is an informal atmosphere where singing is taken seriously, but has to be enjoyed too.

At a recent choir practice, Wynford Davies announced his wish to step down as conductor, but to remain close to the choir, and sing with the bass section. His leadership, commitment and enthusiasm will be greatly missed by all the choir members.

This means that the choir is looking for a new choirmaster, someone who would be able to help members develop singing skills in order to maintain an enjoyable but demanding singing experience.
