Instead of the traditional pantomime to raise the theatre roof, there’s an all new magic show. Not one but two master magicians are brought together by Santa to find out why the magic at his workshop has stopped working. In order to restore the magic and get the workshop back to full production the two magicians have to perform a series of magic tricks. They impale a card on a sword, walk through a piece of rope, catch a very dangerous flying bullet, perform an act of levitation, escape from handcuffs and much more besides. The youngsters in the audience, who are deputed to be Santa’s elves for the show loved all the tricks, particularly when two of the teachers were identified as “bad elves” brought on to the stage and press ganged into helping.
This is a Christmas show with a difference. It may not have the traditional panto format but it still gets the kids fully involved and they are fascinated with the tricks. Congratulations are due to The Great Baldini and the Magical Mr West who jointly devised Santa’s Wondrous Workshop and are its hard working performers. It is a brand new show so will no doubt get tweaked as it develops but it is certainly a hit with the young folk of Monmouth and the Forest.
