A Monmouth woman had her phone and internet services cut off in error by BT after informing them of her father's death.

Irene Dennis-Jones had written to the company to inform them of her father's death at the beginning of May.

Ten days later she received an email from BT to say her services would be cut off.

Last Monday (6th June), BT did exactly that and Irene and her husband Peter found themselves without a telephone for the best part of a week.

"The letter I sent on 12th May simply advised BT of the death of my father, AJ Wyatt, his address at Chippenham Court, and to contact me if they needed any further information" said Irene.

"They didn't reply until the 21st when they sent an email, which I picked up the following morning, which said 'Sorry to hear your news, your services will be cut off on 6th June, if these details are incorrect ring this number'.

"Of course, I rang the number and spoke to a woman who was very apologetic, and after 45 minutes on the phone she seemed to have a grip of the facts and would do something about it.

"She said I would receive a letter but that I should ignore it, which I did.

"To make it worse, the letter referred to my father as 'the late Mr Jones'."
