SIR,

I went to school in Monmouth and grew up with the Beacon, and although I don't read it as regularly as I used to, I still try to get a copy when I can.

I have, over the years, become somewhat dismayed by the drop in standards in the editorial content and the encroachment of the advertorial copy, now making its way as far forward as page three or four in some weeks.

But, and I should have written sooner, I'd like to say how wonderful it is for the last few months to again be able to read well-written, well researced news reports.
